Dear Phoenix member
Over the past nine months we have been working on designing a new kit and logo for the club. There are a number of reasons for this. Firstly, our current design, which has served us well for a number of years has not been properly refreshed in a long while and we felt that it was time to modernise the kit and bring it more up to date. Secondly, whether we like it or not, some people do make a decision on which club to join based on the kit that the club is wearing. As well as the established clubs like Kingston Wheelers, Epsom CC and the Redmon CC, there are many new clubs that have formed in our area in the last few years and we need to be able to attract new riders to KPRC who might otherwise go to these clubs. By no means are we suggesting that this is either the most important reason or the only reason that people will base a decision on which to join a cycling club, but it can be part of the overall decision making process that a new cyclist will make.
Our greatest asset in advertising our club and showing everyone in the area what a great club we are is you. And yet often, our club members are wearing a collection of kit on club rides that at best can be described as a mix, and we would like to change that. So we have designed what we hope is a more modern logo and kit, while recognising our club's racing legacy, history and pedigree. We have gone to a local cycle clothing company, ProSport, who are based in Guildford who supply cycle wear to many local clubs and the quality of their Italian made clothing is excellent. We are very excited to be working with them to make our kit for us. Please open the attachment with this e-mail to see the full kit design and the new club logo. It is a large file so it may take a while to open and please ensure to scroll down.
As you know, It has been a very difficult and trying couple of years for us as a club and in all that time, the club has continued to develop in these most trying of circumstances, and ultimately, that comes down the the fantastic membership that we have. In recognition of this we are going to purchase a complementary short sleeve or long sleeve top for all our current first claim members. This will be a considerable spend for the club in the region of £3500, but we felt that this was a perfect opportunity to say thank you to you all, for the support that you have shown and we hope that it will give the club something to really look forward to as we move into 2018.
So what's going to happen now?
We are purchasing the new kit in a range of sizes and we will be arranging an evening in November when you will be able to try the kit on for size. We will take your order that evening for your complementary jersey and if you wish, you can also order any other club cycle clothing at the same time. If for any reason you cannot make the fitting evening we will arrange for you to have access to the samples so that we get your size correct. We want you to feel awesome in it! We are hoping that the new kit will be available by the end of December or early January and we will have a second evening when we will hand the kit out.
What do we want from you?
We want you to wear your jersey with pride on any club ride. As we said before, you are our best advertisement for the Kingston Phoenix and a collective group of riders in the same kit is a wonderful visual advert for the club while giving us all an even greater sense of unity. We are really looking forward to the new year ahead and all the cycling opportunities that it will bring and we hope that you will be looking forward to it too.
